Easy to make Candy Apple Glazed Ham
Whether you are celebrating a holiday, a special occasion or simply in the mood for some good food, a glazed ham is a tasty centerpiece to any meal. Many home cooks choose to make their own glazes to enhance the flavor of their hams. Popular glazes include honey, brown sugar, mustard, maple and pineapple. We like to use our Candy Apple Jelly!
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
1 whole or half ham
1 jar of Heavenly Creations Candy Apple Jelly(size of jelly will depend on the size of ham)
Kitchen shears
Sharp knife
Cooking thermometer
Step 1 - Trim the ham. Use a pair of kitchen shears to trim any excess fat or rind from the ham. Leave a 1/4 inch of fat on the ham.
Step 2 - Score the ham. Use a sharp knife to make diagonal cuts on the ham. Then, make diagonal cuts in the opposite direction to create a diamond pattern on the ham. Only cut along the fat layer of the ham; do not penetrate the meat.
Step 3 - Cook the ham. Follow the directions on the food label that accompanied your ham. Generally, a whole uncooked ham with bone should roast at 325 degrees F for 20 to 22 minutes per pound. For an uncooked half ham, roast the ham at 325 degrees F for 24 to 26 minutes per pound. The ham should reach an internal temperature of 155 degrees F before you take it from the oven.
Step 4 - Glaze the ham. After the ham has cooked for 45 minutes, remove it from the oven and glaze it with a brush or spatula. Place the ham back into the oven for more roasting. About 30 minutes before the ham is finished, pull it from the oven again and re-glaze it.
Step 5 - Serve the ham. Once the ham reaches an internal temperature of 155 degrees F, remove it from the oven. Allow it to rest at room temperature until it reaches 160 degrees F. The meat will continue to cook even though it is not in the oven. Dress it up with garnishes if you want to get fancy, or simply slice and serve your ham and enjoy!
